Custom Kitchen Cabinets in Shah Alam
Bigger kitchens, longer runs, and honest advice on where the budget is actually worth spending.
Shah Alam was planned, and it shows in the kitchens. The Section houses were laid out with more generous footprints than the terraces squeezed into older parts of the Klang Valley, so a kitchen here is often 16 feet of usable wall rather than 10.
That sounds like good news, and it is, but it changes the budget conversation in a way people do not expect. On a long run, the countertop stops being a detail and becomes one of the largest single line items in the quote.
Where the money actually goes on a long run
Homeowners tend to arrive focused on door colour and handle style. Those are the cheapest decisions you will make. The expensive ones, in order, are usually length, countertop material, and the number of drawer banks.
Here is why length compounds. Our bottom cabinets are RM450 per running foot including a basic laminate top. Upgrading that top to quartz adds RM180 per running foot. On a 10 foot kitchen the upgrade is RM1,800. On a 16 foot Shah Alam kitchen it is RM2,880. Same decision, meaningfully different number, purely because the wall is longer.
So on a long run we would rather you decided the countertop first and the door colour last. It is the opposite of how most kitchen conversations start.
Quartz or laminate
Neither is the right answer for everyone.
- Quartz handles heat, resists staining and takes heavy daily cooking without complaint. If your kitchen is the one the household actually cooks in, it is worth the money.
- Laminate is included in our base rate, looks good, and is entirely adequate for a kitchen used mainly for reheating, kettle duty and weekend cooking. Spend the difference on drawers.
A middle path that works well in the larger Shah Alam kitchens is quartz on the main cooking and prep run, laminate on the secondary wall. You get the durable surface where it earns its keep and you are not paying premium rates for a stretch that holds a rice cooker.
What we build
Full plywood carcass, laminate doors and exposed faces. Plywood because it holds hinge screws for the life of the kitchen and tolerates the occasional leak. Laminate because it wipes clean and never needs refinishing. We do not do veneer.

A worked example
A 16 foot run with bottom and top cabinets, upgraded to quartz. Bottom is 16 by RM450, so RM7,200. Top is 16 by RM225, so RM3,600. Quartz adds 16 by RM180, so RM2,880. The kitchen lands at RM13,680, delivered and installed.
The same 16 feet with the standard laminate top is RM10,800. That RM2,880 gap is the clearest decision in the whole quote, which is why we put it in front of you early rather than burying it.
Approvals in Shah Alam
Shah Alam falls under Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam. Fitted cabinets are non structural, so no council approval is needed for a carpentry job.
Approval matters when you change the building rather than furnish it. Taking out a wall to join the kitchen and dining area, extending the kitchen into the side of the lot, or altering the façade all sit in that category. Shah Alam has a fair number of houses with side extensions added over the years. If your kitchen lives in one, mention it, because it affects what we can fix into those walls.
How the job runs
- site measurement and a detailed written quotation (RM500, deducted if you proceed) across Shah Alam, including the Sections and the newer developments off the Kesas.
- One lump sum quote. Delivery and installation included.
- Fabricated at our Batu Caves workshop and installed by our own carpenters.
- Long runs are built in sections and joined on site, so the finished line stays straight even if the wall is not.
Common questions
Is a 16 foot run built as one piece?
No. It is built as several carcasses and joined on site. That is normal and it is what lets us follow a wall that is slightly out of true without leaving a visible gap.
Can I do the kitchen now and an island later?
Yes, and it is a sensible way to phase a bigger kitchen. Tell us at measurement so we plan the run and any services around where the island will eventually sit.
Do you price per unit or per foot?
Per running foot, then presented to you as one lump sum for the whole job. You are not handed a spreadsheet of individual boxes to total up yourself.
What if the quote is above my budget?
We cut scope, never the rate or the material. Shorten the run, drop to a laminate top, fewer drawer banks. What we will not do is quietly downgrade the board to hit a number.
