Custom Built-in Wardrobes in Malaysia
Made to measure in plywood, finished in laminate, built in our own Batu Caves workshop and installed anywhere in the Klang Valley.
A custom built-in wardrobe from The M Renovation is a plywood carcass cut to your wall, finished in the laminate you choose, and fitted floor to ceiling so no space is wasted. Prices run from RM620 per foot of width for a 5-foot wardrobe to RM950 per foot for a 9-foot wardrobe, with delivery and installation included.
This page covers the subject in one place: the wardrobe types we build, what each costs, what goes inside, and how a job runs from your first WhatsApp to the day we fit it. If you already know your sizes, send them and we will reply with a number.
Which type of wardrobe suits your room?
The right answer usually comes from the room, not the catalogue. This is how we work it out with clients.
- Hinged-door wardrobe. The standard choice where there is space to swing a door. Every shelf and rail is reachable at once, and it is the least expensive way to get a full-height wardrobe.
- Sliding-door wardrobe. For rooms where the bed sits close to the wardrobe. Doors run on an aluminium track, so nothing swings out. Mirrored sliding doors make a small bedroom read bigger; we fitted a pair on a pink wardrobe at Jade Hills in Kajang.
- Walk-in wardrobe. Open bays with rails, shelves and drawers along two or three walls, usually behind one door. At Saujana Akasia in Shah Alam the walk-in sits behind a tall frosted-glass sliding door.
- Wardrobe with a dressing table. A run of wardrobe that steps down into a desk-height table with drawers and a mirror, all in one finish. The wood-grain unit at Resident Ruby in Sea Park is this layout.
- Loft or overhead wardrobe. A top tier above the main doors for luggage and bedding. Any wardrobe taller than 8 feet gets one, because a plywood sheet is 8 feet long and the top box uses the space above it.
How much does a built-in wardrobe cost in Malaysia?
We price per foot of width, and the rate depends on height, because height decides how much board, how many doors and how many hours a wardrobe needs. Delivery and installation are already inside these numbers.
| Wardrobe height | Price per foot of width (from) |
|---|---|
| 5 ft | RM620 |
| 6 ft | RM720 |
| 7 ft | RM820 |
| 7.5 to 8 ft | RM850 |
| 9 ft, floor to ceiling | RM950 |
| Above 9 ft | add about 10% per extra foot |
So a 6-foot-wide wardrobe at full 9-foot height is about RM5,700, and an 8-foot-wide one about RM7,600. A 10-foot wall of wardrobe at the same height comes to roughly RM9,500. These are floor rates for a standard build in a plain or woodgrain laminate with soft-close hinges.
What moves the price above the floor: a sliding-door track, mirror or glass door faces, LED strips inside, premium laminates such as marble or metallic patterns, and hardware upgrades like Blum runners. The full breakdown is on our built-in wardrobe price guide.
Plywood, chipboard or MDF?
We build carcasses in plywood as standard. It holds screws, so hinges do not loosen over years of opening, and it copes with Malaysian humidity better than particleboard. Chipboard wardrobes cost less, and we can build one if you ask, but we do not recommend it for a full-height unit or a room that gets damp. MDF we use only where a door will be spray painted, because paint needs a surface without grain. For how melamine, blockboard and MDF compare with plywood, see our melamine vs plywood guide.
Laminate finishes
Doors and visible sides are finished in high-pressure laminate, not veneer. Laminate wipes clean, does not fade, and comes in far more designs: plain matte colours, woodgrains that read as oak, walnut or ash, textured finishes and high gloss. Woodgrain and textured sheets cost more than plain colours, and the rate card above assumes a standard woodgrain. Inside the wardrobe we use a white or plain lining so the carcass stays bright and easy to see into.
What goes inside?
A wardrobe earns its keep on the inside, so we plan the layout around what you actually own. Long-hanging space for dresses and coats, double rails for shirts and trousers, shelves for folded clothes, and drawers for everything else. Popular additions: a pull-out trouser rack, a tie and belt drawer, a jewellery tray, a laundry basket bay, LED strips that switch on when a door opens, and a mirror on the inside of a door. Soft-close hinges and runners are standard on every unit.

Questions we get asked
Is a sliding wardrobe more expensive than a hinged one?
Yes, by the cost of the track and heavier doors, typically a few hundred ringgit per door. Hinged is the cheaper route if the room has the swing space.
My ceiling is 10 feet. Can you go all the way up?
Yes. Anything above 9 feet is built as the main wardrobe plus a loft tier, and priced at about 10% more per extra foot.
Can you match the colour of furniture I already have?
Usually. Bring a photo or a drawer front to the site visit and we will pick the closest laminate from the catalogue. Exact matches to older veneers are harder, and we will say so.
How long from order to installation?
Three to five weeks after the site measurement, depending on laminate stock. Installation time depends on the size of the job and is confirmed in your quotation.
What does the warranty cover?
One year on our workmanship. Hinges, runners and other hardware carry the manufacturer’s warranty.
