Custom plywood kitchen cabinet with laminate finish by The M Renovation

Puchong is one of the few areas in Selangor where the same street can hold a 22 by 75 terrace and a 30 storey serviced apartment. That matters more than it sounds. The kitchen you can fit, and the way we have to get it into your home, changes completely depending on which one you live in.

We build kitchen cabinets to measure for both, from our workshop in Batu Caves, and we install them ourselves. No subcontractor turns up in our place.

The lift decides how your kitchen is built

This is the part most Puchong homeowners never get told until installation day. A run of kitchen cabinets is not one object. It is a series of carcasses. In a landed house in Taman Puchong Utama or Bandar Puteri we can bring in long sections and join them on site, so you see fewer joins across the run.

In a high rise around Puchong Jaya or IOI, the service lift sets the limit. If a carcass will not fit in the lift, it does not go up, and carrying a full length panel up a fire escape is how panels get damaged. So we measure the lift before we cut anything, then build the run in sections that will actually travel. The finished kitchen looks the same. The difference is that nothing gets forced, scratched or left in the lobby.

If you live in a condo, tell us the block and floor when you enquire. It changes the build, and we would rather design around it than discover it on the day.

Plywood carcass, laminate doors, and why we do not use chipboard

Every carcass we make is full plywood. Not particle board, not MDF with a pretty film on it. Plywood holds a screw when a hinge is adjusted years later, and it survives the odd leak under a sink without swelling into a soft edge.

Doors and exposed surfaces are laminate. You choose the colour and texture, we wrap the doors, and you get a surface that wipes clean and does not need refinishing. We do not offer veneer. Veneer looks lovely for about two years in a Malaysian kitchen and then starts arguing with the humidity.

What a Puchong kitchen actually costs

Our rates are per running foot, and they already include delivery and installation. Nothing is added at the end for transport or labour.

ItemRate
Bottom cabinets, including a basic laminate countertopRM450 per running foot
Top cabinetsRM225 per running foot
Quartz countertop instead of laminateadd RM180 per running foot

A worked example

Take a typical 14 foot run in a Puchong condo, bottom and top cabinets, laminate throughout. Bottom is 14 by RM450, so RM6,300. Top is 14 by RM225, so RM3,150. The kitchen comes to RM9,450, delivered and installed.

Swap the laminate top for quartz and you add 14 by RM180, which is RM2,520, taking it to RM11,970. That is the single biggest lever on a kitchen budget, and it is worth deciding early rather than at the end.

If your budget will not stretch, we cut scope, not the rate. Fewer tall units, laminate instead of quartz, open shelving on one wall. We will not quote a thinner carcass or cheaper board to hit a number, because you would only pay for it again in five years.

Do you need council approval in Puchong?

Puchong falls under Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya. For fitted carpentry, the honest answer is almost always no. Kitchen cabinets are non structural. They are screwed to a wall, they do not touch a beam, and they do not change the outside of the building.

Approval becomes a real question when a job starts hacking walls, moving the kitchen to a different part of the unit, or changing the layout. That is renovation rather than carpentry, and we handle those too, but the paperwork is a different conversation. If you are in a condo, your management office will also have its own renovation deposit and permitted working hours. Ask them before you fix a date, since those rules are set by the building, not by the council.

How the job runs

  • We come to you and measure. Free, and across all of Puchong.
  • You get one lump sum quote covering materials, delivery and installation. Not a per item list you have to add up yourself.
  • We build at our Batu Caves workshop, which is roughly 40 minutes up the LDP and Kesas from most of Puchong.
  • We deliver and install with our own carpenters, and the same person who quoted the job is the person who hands it over.

Common questions

How long does a Puchong kitchen take?

For a straightforward cabinet run, expect a few weeks from confirmed measurement to installation. Fabrication is the slow part. Installation itself is usually a day or two.

Can you work around my existing tiles and plumbing?

Yes, and for a cabinet only job that is usually the point. We build to the kitchen you already have. If you want the sink moved, that becomes a renovation job rather than a carpentry one.

Do you do the wardrobes too?

We do. Built in wardrobes are priced by height, starting at RM950 per foot for a 9 foot wardrobe, also delivered and installed. Most people who do a kitchen with us end up doing the bedrooms in the same visit, which saves a second delivery trip.

Is a quartz top worth it?

If you cook heavily, yes. Quartz shrugs off heat and stains that will eventually mark laminate. If the kitchen is lightly used, a laminate top does the job and the RM2,520 is better spent on more storage.
