Custom Bed Frames in Malaysia: Platform, Storage and Headboard

A custom bed frame from The M Renovation is a plywood platform built to your mattress size, finished in laminate, priced from RM800 for a single, RM1,500 for a queen and RM2,400 for a king, delivery and installation included. Storage drawers or a lift-up base, and a built-in headboard, are added on top of that.

Most people come to us for a bed frame because a shop-bought one does not fit the room: the wall is 10 feet 4 inches, the mattress is a queen, and there is a column in the corner. A built frame uses the whole width, ties into a headboard wall and, if you want, hides a season of bedding underneath.

Which bed frame do you need?

• Platform bed. A plywood box with a solid or slatted deck, sized to the mattress with a lip or flush edge. The simplest and cheapest.
• Storage bed with drawers. The platform gains two to four drawers on runners along the sides or foot. Best where the sides are clear.
• Lift-up storage bed. Gas struts lift the whole deck, so the entire base is one open box. Best in tight rooms where drawers cannot open.
• Built-in headboard wall. A padded or laminate headboard fixed to the wall, usually with floating bedside tables and reading lights, as we did at Jade Hills and Alix Residences.
• Bed with wardrobe or study built in. A frame that shares its carcass with a wardrobe or a desk at the foot, for children’s rooms and small second bedrooms.

How much does a custom bed frame cost in Malaysia?

We price bed frames per unit, by size, with delivery and installation included. Storage and headboards are added to the base price.

So a queen platform bed with drawers and a laminate headboard is usually RM2,500 to RM3,300. Floating bedside tables, LED strips behind the headboard and premium laminates move the number up from there. Mattresses are not included; we build to the mattress you have or the size you tell us.

What we build with

The frame is plywood, which matters more on a bed than anywhere else: it carries weight every night for years and a particleboard frame sags and creaks. The deck is 18 mm plywood on cross rails. Faces are laminate, so the frame wipes clean and matches a wardrobe in the same laminate code. Upholstered headboards are foam on a plywood backer, covered in the fabric you choose.

• Jade Hills, Kajang. A pink built-in headboard with side tables and reading lamps, and a floating wooden bench at the foot of the bed.
• Alix Residences, Petaling Jaya. A dark wood headboard feature wall with floating bedside tables and reading lamps, alongside the built-in wardrobes.

How a job runs

• Send the mattress size and a photo of the room. We reply on WhatsApp with a price range.
• Site measurement. We measure, agree the layout and finish, and send a written quotation. RM500, deducted if you proceed.
• Fabrication. Built in our Batu Caves workshop, three to five weeks from confirmation.
• Installation. Our own team delivers, fits and clears up.

Questions we get asked

Can you build to a mattress I already have?

Yes. Give us the exact mattress size and we build the platform to it, with a lip or flush, as you prefer.

Will a plywood bed frame creak?

No. Creaking comes from loose joints and thin board. We use 18 mm plywood on a screwed and glued frame, which stays rigid.

Drawers or lift-up?

Drawers if the sides are clear of walls and wardrobes. Lift-up if the bed is boxed in, because it needs no side clearance.

Can the headboard have lights and sockets?

Yes. We build in the channels and cut-outs; your electrician terminates the points.

How long does it take?

Three to five weeks after the site measurement. Installation time depends on the size of the job and is confirmed in your quotation.
