A custom TV console from The M Renovation is a made-to-measure plywood unit finished in laminate, priced from RM250 per foot of width. A laminate or slatted feature wall behind it is priced from RM80 per square foot. Both are built in our own workshop and the price includes delivery and installation anywhere in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

Most living rooms in Malaysia end up with one of four things on the TV wall, and the cost is very different for each. This page walks through them, gives you the rates, and shows real walls we have built, so you can decide what you actually want before anyone measures anything.

What do you actually need?

  • A TV console. A low unit under the TV for the decoder, soundbar and remotes, with drawers or doors. Floating off the floor or standing on it. This is the cheapest option and the one most flats need.
  • A full TV cabinet. The console plus overhead cabinets or side columns, so the whole wall becomes storage. Common in landed homes and larger condos where the living room doubles as the family store.
  • A feature wall. Laminate panels, a slatted or fluted face, or an arched section fixed to the wall behind the TV, with the console sitting in front. Adds the look without adding much storage.
  • A display cabinet. Glass doors, internal LED and adjustable shelves for the things you want seen. Often built at the end of a feature wall, as we did at Park Regent in Desa ParkCity.

How much does a TV console or feature wall cost in Malaysia?

Consoles are priced per foot of width. Feature walls are priced per square foot of the wall face, because the height and width both drive the amount of board. Delivery and installation are inside every rate below.

ItemRate (from)
TV console, laminate finish, drawers or doorsRM250 per foot of width
TV or feature wall, laminate panels or slatted face, and wall partitionsRM80 per square foot
LED strip inside a cabinet or behind a panel, fittedRM60 per metre
Curved or arched sectionsadd about 30% on that section

Worked examples. An 8-foot floating console is about RM2,000. A feature wall 10 feet wide by 9 feet high is 90 square feet, so about RM7,200. Console and wall together land around RM9,200 before LED or glass. A finished console on its own usually runs RM2,000 to RM4,000 depending on length, drawers and finish.

What pushes the price up: glass doors on a display section, a curved or arched panel, woodgrain or textured laminate over a plain colour, LED runs, and any stone or marble cladding, which we price separately because it is a different trade.

TV brackets, power points and the TV itself are not in these rates. We build the cable route and cut-outs in, and your electrician puts the sockets where we mark them.

Floating or floor-standing?

A floating console looks lighter and makes the floor easy to mop, which is why most clients ask for it. It needs a solid wall, brick or concrete, to carry the weight of the unit plus what goes on it. On a plasterboard partition we either find the studs or add a concealed plinth so the unit is carried from the floor and only looks like it floats. We check this at the site measurement, not on the day of installation.

Feature wall finishes

Everything we build is plywood faced with high-pressure laminate, so a feature wall can be a flat panel in any laminate colour, a slatted face built from individual laminate-wrapped ribs, or a fluted look in a textured laminate. The slatted wall at Park Regent is laminate on plywood ribs with an LED strip behind it, which is what gives it the depth in the photo. Off-the-shelf WPC fluted panels cost less and we can fit them if the budget calls for it, but they do not sit as flat or take an edge as cleanly as a built wall. Arched and curved sections, like the green arch at Alix Residences, are built as a shaped frame with a bent skin and cost about 30% more than a flat section of the same size.

Plan the cables before we cut the board

The difference between a clean TV wall and an ugly one is usually decided before installation. Tell us where the TV will hang and how big it is, and we build a cable route from the bracket down to the console so no wire shows. Power points and the aerial or fibre point need to end up inside the console or behind the panel, so your electrician needs our drawing before the wall is closed. If you want a soundbar, say so early, because it sets the height of the console top. LED strips need a driver and a socket, which we allow space for.

How a job runs

  • Send a photo and the wall width. We reply on WhatsApp with a price range for the option you are leaning towards.
  • Site measurement. We measure, check the wall construction, agree the finish and send a written quotation. RM500, deducted when you go ahead.
  • Fabrication. Built in our Batu Caves workshop, three to five weeks from confirmation.
  • Installation. Our own team fits it on a schedule we confirm in your quotation, and clears up before leaving.

Questions we get asked

Can you hide the cables completely?

Yes, if the TV is wall-mounted and the sockets sit inside the console or behind the panel. We build the route and cut-outs; the electrician moves the points.

How much weight can a floating console take?

On a brick or concrete wall, a decoder, soundbar and the usual clutter are no problem. Heavy display items or a large aquarium are not, and for those we build a floor-standing unit.

Is a slatted feature wall the same as the WPC panels sold online?

No. Ours is laminate on plywood ribs, built to the wall and finished at the edges. WPC panels are a cheaper surface product we can fit on request.

Can the console match my kitchen cabinets or wardrobe?

Yes, if it is a laminate we can still get. Give us the laminate code or a door to match against.

How long does it take?

Three to five weeks after the site measurement. Installation time depends on the size of the job and is confirmed in your quotation.
